EYELID AESTHETIC
    BLEPHAROPLASTY

Blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure in which excess skin and muscle are removed from both the upper and lower eyelids, along with the underlying fatty tissue. Blepharoplasty improves droopy, sagging loose skin. It helps correct vision in elderly patients with drooping upper eyelids. Blepharoplasty is not useful in removing crow's feet or other wrinkles on the outer side of the eye, eliminating black circles under the eyes, or lifting drooping eyebrows. The most effective method for this problem is Botox application. As it is known, the effects of Botox applications are temporary.

          BEFORE THE PROCESS

Do not use aspirin and aspirin-containing medications for a week before surgery. Likewise, since herbal teas such as green tea and vitamin E are believed to have a blood-thinning effect, it is beneficial not to take them for a week before surgery.

The surgery is performed under general anesthesia or sedation. For this reason, food should not be eaten 5 hours before the procedure and liquids should not be consumed 4 hours before. Blood tests and bleeding coagulation tests will be performed before the procedure. In addition, additional examinations may be required, taking into account your general health condition and medical history. If the patient has any significant illnesses in his/her past or any medications he/she uses regularly, be sure to inform the doctor. Before the procedure, any makeup on your face will be removed, photographs will be taken to compare before and after the operation, and the operation plan will be reviewed and a drawing will be made if necessary.

         EYELID AESTHETIC

Blepharoplasty SURGERY varies for each patient depending on his or her particular needs. It can be performed involving only the lower and upper eyelids or both areas, or it can be performed in conjunction with other surgical interventions on the eyes, forehead, eyebrows and nose. Eyelid surgery does not stop the aging process. However, it reduces the loose, sagging appearance in the eyelid area. Before eyelid surgery, the posture of the eyebrow is examined and, if necessary, methods related to the eyebrow or forehead are discussed. At this point, it is useful to know that sometimes the cause of skin accumulation on the upper lid is due to the loosening of the eyebrow and its downward displacement. This issue is noted during the examination. Before the procedure, eyelid functions are examined. Sometimes there may be dysfunctions and related valve asymmetries. These will be evaluated and you will be told to what extent they can be improved. Additional minor or major interventions may be recommended to achieve better results regarding facial harmony. These can be different methods, from fat injection to some areas to mid-face surgeries.

         AFTER PROCESS

When the procedure is completed, there will be tapes covering the eyelids. These do not prevent you from seeing. Cold application is applied to the eye area after the procedure to control edema. This practice should be 20 minutes every hour on the first day, and 20 minutes every 2 hours on the second day. After the 3rd day, the application for 5-10 minutes in the morning can be continued for a few weeks. Despite these precautions, swelling and bruising may occur around the eyes. These swelling and bruises increase in the first 2 days. It starts to decrease gradually from the 3rd day. Especially in the first hours after the procedure, leakage and slight bleeding may occur on the tapes covering the eyelids. Exertion, coughing and sneezing increase these complaints. Keeping the head elevated with a few pillows while resting after the procedure will help reduce edema. Drinking liquids and soft foods and avoiding hard foods on the first day after the procedure helps control edema. In the first days after the procedure, there may be complaints such as tightness, stinging and burning around the eyes. These complaints can be relieved with simple painkillers. Starting from the 3rd day after the procedure, edema around the eyes begins to decrease and activities can be increased. On the 4th day after the procedure, patches around the eyes are removed, and a small patch can be applied to the corner of the eye for 2 days. It is allowed to wash the eye area and apply moisturizer to the eyelids on the same day. While performing these operations, care should be taken and harsh movements should be avoided. When the tapes and stitches around the eyes are removed, a purple area that has started to turn yellow and limited swelling are natural. These decrease day by day and are camouflaged with light make-up. After the procedure, heavy sports, practices that increase edema such as solarium, sauna, sun bath, steam bath should be avoided for 6 weeks. A thin, pink line may be noticeable in the upper eyelid crease, lower eyelid, and under the eyelashes in the first weeks. In the corner of the eye, this situation may continue for a longer time in some cases. Again, in some cases, where the outer edge of the eye needs to be suspended with a muscle sling, the eyes may appear slanted, more clearly in the first week. This situation decreases day by day. The reason for applying this method is to prevent the eye from becoming round and losing its eye shape after eyelid surgeries and to prevent the white of the eye from appearing more than necessary under the pupil. In the first weeks after the procedure, it is extremely common for the eyes to be swollen when you wake up in the morning. This swelling gradually decreases during the day. In the first weeks, eyes may become tense, stinging and watery due to exposure to wind and sun. To prevent this situation, sunglasses can be used.
